Changing your wardrobe from one season to the next is something every girl loves to do. Deciding what styles to buy each season and which ones to get rid of has almost become an art in itself for some and a ritual for others. There are some staples that every woman should have in her wardrobe for the Spring/summer seasons, as they are full of fun for high octane clubs, and for most people its party season.

There are three must have dresses that every girl should have in her wardrobe. The little black dress is a staple for every season but for summer a little white dress should also be considered. If you don’t have sequin in your wardrobe, it most likely means you are either the introvert type who shies away from attention grabbing sequin or you don’t party enough. Not that either is bad but something as colorful as sequin is a must. Sequin dresses make the best party and clubbing looks, FACT. Sequin is a must because it’s not only a really simple solution that will add glamour to your wardrobe, whether you are heading out to a pub, boogying the night away in a night club or simply painting the town red on a night out, sequin is always guaranteed to make heads turn.

Which sequin colors are the best? I always get asked this question. Gold sequin dresses and silver sequin dresses I dare say are the most trendy sequin colors based on what I see out there across style forums, blogs, social networks and websites. Strapless sequin minis are especially also quite popular for clubbing.

Since summer is clubbing season, there should be plenty of opportunities for a mini length dress. Make a grand entrance at your VIP club lounge in a mini-length stunner, possibly sequin or diamante crystal embellished mini. The sequin mini look can be dressed down in low platforms and a tiny clutch, and dressed up with a gorgeous pair of stilettos and matching clutch. One shoulder sequin mini dresses look best on taller silhouettes where a sleeveless sequin dress is more flattering on a curvier body.

Your wardrobe should have a safe no fail party dress. This dress is your go-to when the last minute party invitation comes in and you need the perfect outfit. This outfit should ideally require no fussing and you should be able to slip it on, zip it up and head right out the door, knowing you look fabulous for the occasion.

There are so many parties and occasions over the summer that a party dress never goes unworn. Ofcourse you can fill your wardrobe with trendy fun pieces from the usual high street suspects but also have some unique staple party dresses on hand so that when the invitation comes in, you a stand out outfit and you can never say…I have nothing to wear!

HOW TO DRESS TO IMPRESS AT NIGHT CLUBS & PARTIES FOR WOMEN

The modern party girl (or guy) needs to not only look impressive when painting the night club red but they also need to stand out from the generic masses; you need to own the place, be the life and soul of the party. But it's not that simple to know exactly what's the best style to do this is. The key to being well dressed for a night club or party for that case is to steer clear of generic high street fashion or whatever is in vogue and instead go for what's right for you, SIMPLE. It's about having your own flair and style of dressing and staying with it. But there are a few general pointers that will help you when you are preparing for any club.

MINIS ARE FOREVER

Minis will always be in vogue when it comes to clubbing for many girls. By this we don’t mean the barely-cover-the-ass micro minis. As for accessorizing, an ornamental necklace or beautiful bangle will complete the look and off you can go to strut your stuff. I often get asked by people on what you should wear to a night club versus what you should wear to a party. First things first, dressing for a party can be a minefield especially if it will involve family. However a s a rule of thumb, it’s better to focus on looking decent at parties visa vis night clubs where its more or less a free-for-all dress fest, where people can get away with…pretty…anything. But the next time you are buying your club or party outfit, keep these points in mind.

KNOW YOUR STYLE

This is actually easier said than done but most people with a very high personal sense of style usually eschew high street fashion and go for their own thing. Club L are a small label but damn do they compensate with some fabulous partywear and clubbing styles. Others are Rare, Asos, and Rhinewear (new partywear label). Lipsy used to do really fabulous partywear but since they were taken over by Next, their clothes seem to be getting worse. To be fair, if you are the type that really loves their high street fashion, if you can find a formula, and change a few details to suit the seasons, you will be fine.

When it comes to sparkly fashion and dresses, sequin rocks because it’s not only a simple and easy solution that adds glamour to any style-conscious girl’s frock, whether you are heading to pub, club or for a posh night out, sequin is guaranteed to make heads turn. In this age and era, you don't need to take a trip the jungle to get your hands on a python around your shoulder. It would be frankly frightening. In the wake of Jimmy Choo being sold for £525 million this month (May 2011) to luxury brand Labelux, we take a look at how one lady with a love for shoes turned her passion for shoes into a multi-million pound business, in the process turning her into one of the richest people in Britain. This is the story of Stiletto queen Tamara Mellon.

Stiletto queen Tamara Mellon, co-founder of the Jimmy shoe brand, advises “Every girl should have a great open-toed platform shoe in a pale gold fabric, a chic wedge for any on-grass event, and a perfect flat shoe in neutral color for everyday”. Who can disagree!

Mellon, a former accessories editor at Vogue, has every reason to smile in 2011. The Sunday Time Rich List, a compilation of the wealthiest people in Britain released Sunday on 8-may-2011 put Tamara’s wealth at £150million pounds, up from £102million pounds in 2010. That’s a staggering 50% increase in her wealth in just over a year.

Mellon was born in London, on 7 July 1967, the daughter a successful entrepreneur.

She started her career at Mirabella Magazine before joining Vogue Magazine as an accessories editor.

Recognizing the gap in the market for high-end designer shoes, Mellon approached bespoke shoe-maker Mr. Jimmy Choo with the idea of launching a ready-to-wear shoe company. Tamara borrowed £150,000 pounds from her father, and partnered with designer Jimmy Choo to start the business and the rest was history as they way.

Secrets to success

Tamara believed that having a physical store was essential in having a real established brand so she opened her first store in Knightsbridge London in 1996. “When we opened our first shop in London, I think we had only a handful of shoes on the shelves, it was so embarrassing” Tamara tells a CNBC reporter in 2011.

When Tamara started the business, she didn’t apparently envision the tremendous success that’s followed the company.

In 2001, she got her first equity partners, Equinox, when they bought out Jimmy Choo’s shares leaving Tamara with the responsibility of running the company without Jimmy, the original designer. So Tamara took over the designing of the shoes herself and other parts of running the business such as wholesale, PR, manufacturing, “I had to learn all the facets of running the business from designing the shoes, PR, sales, manufacturing, I have done it all, there is absolutely nothing I haven’t done or put my hands in” she narrates to a CNBC reporter.

“What has helped Jimmy Choo expand so quickly in such a short time?”

“I think celebrity endorsements have helped the company a lot. Someone once told me that Jimmy Choo has been worn the most by actresses who have gone on to win an Oscar from Halle Berry in 2002, Sandra Bullock in 2010  to Natalie Portman in 2011. We have been so lucky that celebrities who have gone on to win Oscars tend to wear our Choos)” Says Tamara

Well, what do we know about it?

Well, it was designed by Riccardo Tisci who works for Givenchy (I think) and it’s been heavily embellished with an assortment of Swarovski crystal rhinestones. It’s also embroidered but God does it scream old Hollywood glam, which seems fitting for the film industry’s biggest night. What do you guys think?

• In her fourth look, she pulled out yet another number in a Vivienne Westwood corseted Couture piece with embroidered lace and sequins that were (believe it or not) exclusively made for her in the UK. She sparkled in a diamond and amethyst necklace, yellow sapphire and diamond ring all from Tiffany. To top it off, she graced the stage in Jimmy Choo platforms. Its shit, right? Hahaha…I wish

How to bling up clothing and jeans using sparkly rhinestones

What you will need

• Hot fix transfer tape-Costs around a pound.
• Iron on Rhinestones
• Home iron
• A pack of 1440 Swarovski crystals costs around £32 in the UK while the cheapest ones are Korea rhinestone crystals where a pack of 1440 costs around £4 if ordered in China. Diamante rhinestones fall in between the two in terms of sparkly effect. Crystal AB stones sparkle the most no doubt.

Rhinestones, sequins and beads are all the rage in the world of fashion and apparel. The current trend is clothing that is embellished with sparkly rhinestone studs and sequins. Just browse any website or shop floor and you will be bombarded with sequin dresses and rhinestone dresses. However you can also apply rhinestones on clothes too.

Since they are all the rage currently, not only can you add some "bling" to your wardrobe, but you can replicate a designer look at a portion of the cost. Even better, you can sell your creations like me.

I sell alot of these designs so I would definitely recommend learning this enjoyable skill.

 

While rhinestones are not hard to apply, they do require a bit of discipline and patience.

If you have never applied rhinestones before, I recommend starting with a small, inexpensive design to test it out. My first one was only 3 inches wide, and while successful, it took multiple attempts so that that every stone was firm. I also learnt that my home iron sometimes didn’t get hot enough before it begun to cool down so I switched irons and this remedied the situation.

One key thing to note is that, each stone, even with the same glue, will melt at faintly different times due to the size difference. For example, SS10 stones will melt faster than SS20 stones. What I learned is that you really cannot over iron them (short of scorching your fabric!) so the best tactic is to start on a lower temperature setting, and increase temperature and time.

1. WARNING: NEVER move your iron while applying rhinestones! Other iron-on stones might be more forgiving, but not hot fix, if you push heated rhinestones with your iron, you will push the glue across your fabric. At best, you will not have enough glue to secure the stones. At the worst, you will leave glue residue on your fabric! So use a "press down - lift up - move over, overlapping a bit - press down" movement.  
2. Set home iron to "dry" not steam setting.
3. Pre-heat to cotton setting (or if unsure of your fabric, one or two settings lower).
4. Place on a flat, solid surface-do not place on your ironing board since it’s not very flat and hard enough. I recommend kitchen worktops or if you have extra money, you can buy a cutting board used by artists like architects to cut stuff on.
5. SLOWLY & CAREFULLY peel the white transfer sheet from the rhinestone motif. If any of the stones or studs shifted, just carefully reposition them using your fingers. 
6. Find a suitable position of fabric before applying! If you feel the need to experiment a bit with placement, cut a sheet of paper roughly to size to determine placement.
7. Place the transfer tape sticky side down, onto your fabric. DO NOT slide it back and forth into place as you might loosen the rhinestones and might have to reposition a number of them.
8. Cover with a clean cloth, muslin, Teflon sheeting or tea shirt, or even a double folded kitchen paper towel works fine).
9. From the front of the cloth, start ironing by pressing the iron down flat (do not move back/forth/around). Just hold and press for 20 to 40 seconds on light clothing such as cotton and silk. For heavier fabrics like jean denim, press and hold for approximately 1 minute since jeans require more time to heat up. Again, do NOT slide the iron back and forth! Just lift and place down, working from one section to the next with a slight overlap. Repeat once more. (First horizontally, and then vertically).
10. Turn the fabric inside out and using the pressing cloth again, apply heat to every section of the stones for another 30 seconds. This ensures that all the glue has melted deep into the fabric.
11. Turn back right side outside again.
12. Gently remove the transfer tape when the design and material have cooled, but while it is still warm to the touch. I usually leave everything in place to cool for about 20 minutes!
13. Shake a section of the rhinestones with your fingernail to ensure they are secure. If any or a few of the stones are still loose, it might be due to not giving them enough ironing time to melt the glue. Don’t worry though, simply repeat steps 7 to 11 increasing the ironing time by 10 to 20% depending on how many were loose. If just one or two stones were loose, just focus on them. Remember to let the iron reach the proper "cotton" temperature before repeating.
14. If done correctly, you should be able to run your hands across the design, up and down, and all pieces should feel secure. Gently pick at them with a finger nail (not too hard, or you can remove them since they are still warm!).
15. SUCCESS!

From my experience I have learnt that unless you ironed them by moving back and forth hence removing and spreading the heated glue, you really can't damage hot fix rhinestones.

Remember that you can reuse the transfer tape multiple times before it loses its stickiness.
